In the interior design of any building, there are several key factors that should be borne in mind. By adhering by the fundamental tenets given below, most of the major issues will be tackled. Each of these has a special role to play and it may be utilized in many ways on the basis of the kind of space you are working on.

Unity: According to this, the whole space should be considered as a single unit, which has been partitioned through walls, and this must be taken into account while designing the interiors of the space, which therefore must have some consistency. The central theme must never be lost sight of.

Balance: This deals with the most appropriate distribution of different items in an area. Objects which have similar visual characteristics must be placed at different points in the room to achieve a balance along a predetermined axis. There are three types of balance. The first is symmetrical, which is the most traditional, and the easiest to attain. Asymmetrical is the next kind of balance, which is quite fashionable, but requires a lot of deliberation and originality. The last is radial, which is attained by taking a central point or item from which the other items seem to radiate.

Proportion: This is essentially to do with the size and proportions of the articles. It is vital that various articles are in sync with each other and with the room in terms of proportions. Lack of proportion will result in imbalance that will adversely affect the appearance of the room, as some things will be over emphasized while others will not receive enough visibility.

Focus: High quality interior design needs a focal point in the room. What kind of focal item you pick is up to you. It could be something like a nice painting or a furniture item. This item must make an impression on the viewer and also be relevant to the decor of the rest of the room. It must stand out, but not look out of place.

Rhythm: This is again an essential factor of good interior design. This means that the design should give a feeling of continuity and smooth flow. Curves, ornate designs on walls and floors, carefully selected paintings, repetition of shades and designs etc will help you achieve a rhythm.

If enough attention is paid to these aspects, you can be sure that the interior designing exercise will be successful. It is recommended to engage a good interior design expert who can take care of all these factors and also help you with the details.
