Usually, cockroaches are harmless. It is a fact that species of cockroaches are discovered almost all over the world, except those environments that are inhospitable, such as Antartica. Currently, there are more than four thousand species of roaches already identified, and 3 of these species are responsible for making human life miserable because these three species like to live where there are humans.
Distinguishing these cockroaches could be the first step in irradication & control. It is pretty easy and can aid in extermination techniques. Here are the three main kinds of cockroaches.
American Cockroach
The American cockroach has a reddish brown color and single stripe on the head. It can grow up to 25mm in length. These roaches get easily attracted to liquor and can often be found in drinking establishments or at home in case you had a party & didn’t clean up rapidly. They can live for around one & half years, and have an incubation period of 6 to 8 weeks.
German Cockroach
These kinds of cockroach has 2 lighter stripes on the back of its head, and boast of a tan or brownish color. They can grow up to lengths of 15mm. It is probably the fastest breeding among its cousins, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. At this rate, one cockroach can multiply into 30,000 in just a year. They can live for around 6 months.
Oriental Cockroach
Among these three, the Oriental cockroach is probably the biggest. It grows around 25mm in length. They move generally slower than the other cockroaches & are a dark brown to black with a shiny body. They are sometimes known as the “waterbug” since these creatures love dark, moist hiding places. They are most probably found in cellars or damp mulch. The duration of incubation could be about two months with about 15 eggs hatching &; they can each live for up to two years.
