Whether you are looking to start a new full time business, want to work from home, or simply want to make some extra income on the side, you may be looking in the wrong place!

When many people think of a new business opportunity, they believe that they have to start out in an industry entirely different than what theyve been doing. This can cause a lot of extra work on your part, since you will need to learn everything about the new industry, ranging from the product itself to the competition you will face.

What you may be surprised to learn is that you can make more money and get started faster and easier by looking for a business opportunity that takes into account your past experience. If you want to start a new business, use the skills that you have already learned to do so. You will be much more successful doing what you know instead of learning something entirely new.

Freelance, Consult, Contract

There are many ways that you can use your current industry to allow you to create a new business opportunity to work from home or otherwise earn extra income. In a struggling economy, those with the motivation to take freelance or contract work will find that they have an advantage. Businesses are often more willing to hire freelancers and contractors because they do not have the additional costs of insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits. You could also save the company money and other resources if you do your work from home. In most cases, consultants and freelance workers are paid either by the hour or by the project, allowing you and the company hiring you to know how much you will be paid and exactly what the job will entail. However, keep in mind that a lot of motivation is needed in this line of work, since you must be able to sell yourself successfully and continually.

Those Who Have Done, Teach

At some point in your working career, you are going to want a change of pace for one reason or another. You may want to work fewer hours or a less stressful job or simply earn more income without going back to work fulltime. One thing that you can consider doing is teaching. If you have been in the industry for some time, then you may be able to teach that profession at a local college or technical school. Regardless of the type of background your employment history has been in, your experience may be highly valued by institutions because you can teach more than just book smarts. Check your local community college for openings or speak to the head of the department. You may even have success offering to teach an off campus class or night course. These courses can be hard for colleges to fill with regular professors.

Even if teaching is not your forte, there may be other income opportunities available for you. Make a list of your skills and try searching an online job site. You may be surprised at the business opportunities that are available to you. You could also consider writing about what youve learned and selling the articles to trade magazines and websites. Freelancers with actual work experience can often expect a higher premium than those that are generic writers. Look for a creative way to market yourself and your experience and you will be surprised at how far a little motivation can go.[I:http://www.w3buck.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/InaHikmatullah0.jpg]

Due to all the advances in technology that have sprang up in the past 3 decades this is more than likely the best time ever to get and/or be involved with a home based residual income business.

Jump starting a new business from your home office can be very simple to do. It will take hard work however to get it to a level of success but you may be able to implement some business skills that you have acquired over the years.

There are different approaches to how new business owner decide to work their business. Some only want to start off part-time after their regular jobs during the Monday through Friday work week. Other business owner on the other hand want to exclusively work the business ventures on the weekends.

One of the pluses of working exclusively on the weekends in their business is the fact that they may be able to devote more full-time attention to what they are doing as opposed to what they could during the week. A minus of this strategy though is the fact that they might miss out on valuable clients and business because of this limited time frame in which they operate.

Waiting to the weekend to work a home business can prove benficial too because they may be able to target a consumer demographic that only likes to do their buying on weekends too.

Whenever a residual income business owner decides to run their business it’s up to them but the primary goal of that business should always be growth. It doesnt matter if this growth comes in spurts or in blasts.

The road to financial freedom has many detours but the key to getting there will always be knowing your travel strengths.

Residual Income Business- Giving to Get

When I was a teenager I worked at a local mall in the food court area at a popular fast food restaurant. The restaurant offered the usual burgers and fries and even ice cream. My usual schedule had me working during both the lunch and dinner hours which made the time really go by faster.

I remember one day at work when my boss’ boss came for a visit and after he left the entire store was called in for a quick store meeting. We were told that we had been having declining sales and that we needed to do something about it. Apparently the restaurant next door to us was kicking our butt in sales and it was time to take action.

Every one of the hourly employees knew why the restaurant next door us was slaughtering us in the sales department. It was the fact the they had employees out in front of their restaurant passing out free samples to any person that walked by. I incorporate this strategy into my residual income business today but back then my restaurant wasn’t meeting the call of the customers.

My boss watched what our neighbors did to lure customers for a week before he finally figured it out. He decided that we would basically copy their methods and start giving out free samples to every person that wanted one too. I ended up drawing the short straw and had to be one of the people passing out samples. Doing that all day and having to smile too was a challenge but it taught me a business lesson. It taught me problem solving as a selling method because we were solving the problem of hunger for our customers and reaping the rewards too.

I realized how giving away free samples helped our customers make a more informed decision when it came to solving their problem of hunger and that they were more likely to come see my when they wanted to order food in the future.

This shift in strategy as a teenager helped me in adulthood because now my sales approach in my residual income business is based around giving away something of value for free in order to help a customer solve a problem.

And when it comes to giving a little something to get a bigger something, either you want your business to grow or not.
